About the trainer
Ms. Sumathi Shivashankar is a teacher, trainer and consultant with over 20 years of experience in the field of Early childhood education. An AMI Montessori certified expert and Early Childhood development professional. She is a member and has served as an Assistant Montessori Administrator at The Indian Montessori Training Courses, Bangalore. She has conducted workshops and spearheaded setting up of Montessori environments across India. She has also designed curriculums and books for preschool children in schools all over India. A passionate educator and a thorough professional, Ms. Sumathi is one of the most well-known Montessorians in Bangalore.

What is The Diploma in Preschool Education?
The Diploma in Preschool Education is an integrated Montessori and teacher training course which makes candidates eligible to teach in a Montessori/Kindergarten/Nursery preschool environment.
Will I get a Diploma Certificate?
Yes! On successful completion of the course you will get a Diploma certificate in Preschool Education from the Basil Woods Teacher Training Academy. The course is in the process of being recognized by the Government of India and will soon be accredited by the ECA(Early Childhood Association).
How much salary can one expect?
The salary would depend on the school of employment.
What is the evaluation process?
Written assignments would have to be submitted at regular intervals and there would be an exam at the end of every learning module in the course.
Do you provide any kind of placement assistance?
We do provide 100 % placement assistance to students who successfully complete the course in preschools across Bangalore.
Will there be any exams in the program?
The examination is in the pattern of periodic assignments as well as an evaluative exam at the end of every module in the course. The assignments will be evaluated by the tutors and feedback will be provided. The exams at the end of every module will be evaluated by external examiners.
Do I need a teaching qualification to get a job in a preschool in India?
It is a must to have a teaching qualification in order to work in any Preschool. The certificate acts as a legal license for the would be teachers to apply for the position of a preschool teacher, making it a prerequisite to get a job.
Which age group will I be able to teach after doing the course?
The Diploma in Preschool Education will prepare candidates to teach ages 2-6 years in a Montessori/Kindergarten/Nursery preschool environment.
Do I get any help from tutors or trainers?
Students will be given constant support from the tutors in the form of study material, guidance and practical tips. The tutors can be contacted through email or phone. Tutors will provide guidance during observation, internship and career counselling as well.
What are the learning modes?
Learning would be via theory sessions, assignments, observation in schools across Bangalore and through a two month on the job internship.
Is the program recognized by the government?
The diploma is in the process of being recognized by the government of India/Karnataka.
What is the eligibility of the Program?
